At KN Counselling, one of the primary goal’s is to ensure that your child or teen feels comfortable and engaged during sessions as this leads to motivation to continue with therapy. One of my greatest strengths is connecting with children and teenagers on their level and using creative approaches to teach skills and coping strategies that are age-appropriate and transferable to their everyday lives. It’s important for children and teens to feel that sessions can positively impact their lives and together as a team, we will identify counselling goals and the treatment plan. A number one priority is for your child to safe to share their feelings, to feel validated, and to feel empowered to learn skills to help them reach their full potential.

Parent/caregiver involvement is critical to the success of counselling. Depending on your child’s age, I will encourage parents/caregivers to schedule “Parenting Sessions” regularly (typically bi-weekly) to provide an opportunity to review the skills that have been developed during their child’s therapy session so that these skills can be reinforced at home. For children 12 years and younger, I encourage a parent/caregiver to be present at the beginning and end of each session so that I can debrief with them and discuss “take-home skills.” “Take-home skills” are skills or strategies that can be practiced by the child and family in between sessions.

I specialize in supporting children and teenagers in the following areas:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Emotional Regulation

  • Self-esteem Development

  • Social Skill Development

  • Improving Communication

  • ADHD

  • Family or Life Changes

  • Trauma

Young Adult Counselling

If you’re looking for support, want to make a change in your life, or are looking to gain skills for personal growth or development, counselling can help! At KN Counselling, my first goal is to develop a therapeutic relationship with you. Feeling comfortable and engaged in sessions is critical to successful therapy. Through this relationship, we will work together on identifying your specific goals and working towards making positive changes in your life. Sessions can focus on providing you with opportunities to talk and share your feelings, while also learning to recognize your “ways of thinking” and how this may impact your mood and behaviours. Sessions can also provide you with an opportunity to learn more effective skills or strategies to help you achieve specific goals (such as improved relationships, improved sense of self, improved emotional regulation, etc.).

I specialize in providing individualized counselling sessions aimed to support individuals in the following areas:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Emotional Regulation

  • Self-esteem

  • Communication skills

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Trauma

  • Life Transitions

  • ADHD

  • Stress and burnout

When one family member’s difficulties may be impacting the entire family unit, family counselling can help family members develop a greater understanding of these difficulties, improve collaboration amongst family members and develop problem-solving strategies.

I specialize in providing family counselling sessions to support families in the following areas:

  • Communication skills

Parenting children is one of the most difficult jobs out there, especially when your children have different strengths, challenges, and needs. At KN Counselling, parent counselling aims to provide parents with a safe space to discuss their parenting challenges and to work on their specific parenting goals. If your child or teenager is already accessing individual counselling with me, I will often recommend parent counselling sessions. This helps parents develop the skills to reinforce the treatment being provided in their child’s sessions.

I specialize in providing parent counselling sessions to support parents in the following areas:

  • Developing a positive relationship with your child(ren)

  • Supporting your child with emotional regulation skills

  • Staying calm and providing effective parenting strategies

  • Aligning parenting strategies between parents

  • Co-parenting
